Having built an array of batik stories and signature silhouettes since transiting into Gypsied 2.0, this year felt like the right time to approach design differently. Preferring to refine existing silhouettes, and improving design aspects that have needed our attention. No silhouette is perfect at first launch. As we dress more body types, we learn how you'd like your Gypsied pieces to fit you. Every considered feedback goes a long way in ensuring good fit and design. For example, the Banded Crop Top is now available in a longer length for sizes L to XL.
This even slower approach to fashion production, as always, goes against the grain of the regular fashion retail calendar. To that end—well we are used to that by now. We run on our own schedule, and it is for the best.
One of our major themes this year is SG60, and we don't mean that in a cringey way. The years spent sharing and writing batik stories have also built up to this point. It is time to write fresh stories for a new generation. Designing our own in-house batik motifs created space for us to begin writing this narrative. As we draw from Javanese batik stories of lore, the communities who wear them and the centuries-old silhouettes worn by people from this archipelago, the next phase also beckons.
How will our generation of Singaporeans be remembered? How are they represented? Who makes up this generation of Singaporeans? What are the values we stand for?

As far as small businesses go, we need your support to make our plans happen! We believe we have so much more to offer. The spring cleaning event we are holding on our online store is one way. This Batik Archive sees some of our treasured batik stories up to 35% off. A great way to own unique pieces of Studio Gypsied, most of which will never be made again. While spring cleaning the studio, we also found previously archived batik stories such as Mekar Indigo and Semerbak. Don't miss this chance to own these one-of-a-kind pieces ❤︎
